If you own a horse ranch, you are well aware of how demanding the job can be. Not only do horses need to be groomed on a regular basis, they also need to get plenty of exercise. One of the most important parts of having horses, however, is feeding them. This is a huge chore, especially if you have a lot of horses.

In order to make feeding them easier, here are three types of equipment every horse rancher needs.

1. Tractor

A horse that weighs 1,000 pounds will eat between 10 and 20 pounds of hay a day. This means you'll need to have plenty of square or round bales in order to ensure your horses get enough to eat. The average square bale weighs about 50 pounds. A round hay bale weights much more. In fact, a round bale that is 5 feet wide and 5 feet in diameter weighs about 1,046 pounds.

2. ATV

You might think that an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is just something fun to ride when spending time outdoors. These types of vehicles, however, can come in handy when feeding your horses.

If you need to bring hay out to a field that would be hard to get to by tractor, you can hook up a trailer to your ATV and transport the horse's food right to them. These vehicles come in especially handy if you live in areas with rough terrain or when it's muddy outside. To buy an ATV, simply go to your nearest ATV dealer.

3. Snowmobile

If you're a horse rancher who lives in a part of the country that gets a lot of snow, you might want to invest in a snowmobile. If you need to get a few small bales out to some horses in the field and the snow is really deep, simply hook up a sled behind it and transport the hay that way.

Also, if your house is a long distance away from your barn, or the horses are out in the pasture, a snowmobile provides a way to easily get to them so that you can make sure they have plenty of food and water. To buy a snowmobile, find a dealer that specialize in selling these types of vehicles.
